KMT Publications celebrates the 21st Century acknowledging the contributions of Black Science Fiction Writers, producers and directors. The long-awaited film adaptation of BLACK PANTHER (2018) achieved a milestone in Black cinema. Director Ryan Coogler understood the challenges before him and exceeded all expectations. As of September 2018, the film had gross box office receipts of $1.3 billion, is now the third highest-grossing film in American cinematic history, and the film's star (Chadwick Boseman) was honored (in 2018) by Time Magazine as one of the most influential people in the world. All of this represents a significant breakthrough for the global Black cinematic image. After 50 years of comic book imagery, the mythological African nation of WAKANDA (a technological wonder with its vast metal deposits of vibranium) was brought to life and given a historic cinematic ceremony, celebrating the technological genius of Black people. It is my sincere hope as a Black Futurist that this movement continues with fresh ideas and great storylines about African people and their contributions to global civilization. The mythological power of Wakanda has proven to be an extraordinary cultural and financial success on the global stage.
